My summer project this year is working on an ABC book with Simply Read publisher located in Vancouver, BC ( Canada).
As you might have noticed, from some of the images of this project on my blog, it's not strictly a kids book in the traditional sense of the thing. Many of the images depict moments of challenge and hardship.
Ex. B is for Broken hearted : (
The backgrounds for these works are archival prints from scanned old book covers ( the end pages as well as covers ). Once the prints are mounted on wooden cradled panels, I then begin to create the painting with acrylic paint.
The idea for the book was hatched after a show I had at Little Mountain Gallery in 2009. I had used old book covers paired with old frames for my paintings. Here are a couple of pieces from that show in 2009 called Catholic School Girls Rule.
The new works are all archival prints as the surfaces are easier to work with than ratty old book covers and I can ensure a higher quality of materials.
The book will be released next year but I will be sharing the images here on my blog until then.
