Spring is here. We want to take advantage of the beautiful weather and our amazing waterfront. We will be hosting the next PechaKucha Night at the Granville Island Stage. Get a drink and meet up with your friends at their ocean-view lobby. A cash bar is located in the lobby, or you can get some food at the Backstage Lounge before the show starts.

Bring your printed ticket to the theatre. Granville Island Stage requires a physical ticket for entrance.

Working with the grade 7's at Collingwood School was a super fun experience! It really brought me back to my time in grade 7 and what the energy is like in class at that age: )

Together we worked on old salvaged book covers to create a mixed media collage : )

I was invited to speak/teach because they were working on a project inspired by my book Eerie Dearies (which was all created using old book covers as the backgrounds).

A big thank-you to Rita Floor , Delta Secondary School, and Rachael Ashe, for donating all of the old books and magazines that helped make this day so amazing!

Very soon we are having our last (and best!) art sale + open studio of 2015 - and it is going to be Fab-YOU-luss! Why ? Because we opened our hearts + our studios to invite a few other artists to show/sell out of our studios. So it's our stuff PLUS even more awesomeness.

In fact I am so excited about the sale that I made a wishlist, here it is:

WISHLIST ITEM  #1. I would like to decorate my home with these ceramic slabs from another, and far more pretty, dimension by Genevieve Dionne:

“Slabs” - flat ceramic pieces:  $50 - $100      Mugs, Pots Etc: $20 - $80

WISHLIST ITEM  #2. I would like to add to my collection of WASTED EFFORT jewelry by getting these pieces:

Jewelry from WASTED EFFORT ranges from $55 - $195. She will also bring us some pyramid-shaped candles and maybe a few of her cool pins : )

WISHLIST ITEM  #3. I would like to put together an outfit inspired by and including this minimal and earthy necklace by Plain Jane Designs

WISHLIST ITEM #4. Moth Mobile. What more do I need to say ? Tara Galuska crafts paper into delicate likenesses of moths, cactuses and cats. This answers my need to surround myself with the whimsy of the forest. I need to hang this in my house immediately!:

This event takes place during the East Side Culture Crawl and we hope you'll include it in your plans to see and buy art+gifts, meet the makers and support the local art scene.

Our event is a one day only event: Saturday November 21st

Time: 1 - 5 pm

Place: Gene Studios @ 2414 Main Street - the door is right beside Rath's Art Supplies.

* PLUS! It's a little known fact that our studio has a thriving community of illustrators and comic book artists - while our event is happening they are opening their doors as well so you'll have a chance to meet and explore their works as well all in one little building.

Artists include:
Robin Bougie
James Lloyd
Jennifer Ku
Priscilla Yu
Zed Alexandra

Wasted Effort
- jewelry !!

I am psyched to host Marie Foxall out of my studio and already own two of her beautiful necklaces ! ( Marie - I need more! )

Here's her recent Sept 2015 interview with the Capilano Courier:

“I truly hope that when someone wears a piece of my jewelry, they understand and appreciate the time and care that has gone into each design and each individual piece. I want people to value the difference between mass-produced jewelry and something made with care by human hands. I love connecting with my customers and hope that they each impart their jewelry with meaning and their own personal story.” - Marie Foxall aka Wasted Effort interview by Capilano Courier

The Perseus Necklace is a personal favourite (and the ring that matches it is on my finger every single day).” - Marie Foxall aka Wasted Effort interview by Capilano Courier.

I have a couple of pieces from Wasted Effort and was actually blown-away when Marie agreed to come sell her work in my studio for our open studio coming up:

SATURDAY Nov 21 - 1-5pm

Gene Studios 2414 Main St.

I will be there in person on both Saturday and Sunday from 11-4pm : )

The gallery is located just inside the main entrance of Emily Carr University of Art + Design ( 1399 Johnston Street on Granville Island) .  It's called The Art Market and all works are made by Emily Carrr Alumni and range from fine art to craft.  There will also be a little book lounge set up as part of the event ...who doesn't love books? ! ? !
